Staff at Provident Financial's head office in Bradford have been crowned the regional winners of Walk to Work week, walking an impressive 700 miles between them and beating off competition from 48 other companies throughout Yorkshire and the Humber.

Over 70 of Provident's employees took up the Walk to Work week challenge, which was organised as a national initiative to encourage employees to try a healthier, more environmentally friendly commute to work. More than 6000 companies across the UK took part, with prizes up for grabs for the companies which clocked up the most miles walked by employees. Not only did Provident staff experience the health benefits of swapping their cars for walking boots, burning off the equivalent of 180 muffins during the week, they also helped the environment by saving the same amount of carbon dioxide as replacing 220 60W light bulbs with energy-efficient bulbs.

Adam Snowden, Travel Plan Co-ordinator and Walk to Work Week organiser at Provident Financial, commented:

"I'm delighted that so many Provident employees took part in Walk to Work Week, and as we're moving to our new head office in the Autumn there's never been a better time to start thinking about using greener, more sustainable ways of travelling to work. Everyone who took part commented on how much they enjoyed being more active, and managing to walk more miles than all of the other companies who took part throughout Yorkshire and Humber is a fantastic achievement."

All staff who participated were refuelled with a free breakfast at the end of the week, and the Provident employee who walked the most miles can look forward to receiving a £250 ‘Experience More' voucher which entitles them to choose from a range of experiences, including spa weekends, city breaks and hot air balloon rides. Those in second and third place will receive £75 and £50 in Love2Shop vouchers respectively.
