Provident Financial staff have raised a total of £30,000 for Cancer Research UK by taking part in a host of fundraising activities. Along with coffee mornings, cake sales, sponsored leg waxing and ‘bad taste' dress down days, branches across the UK held ‘pyjama days' on which staff paid to come to work in their pyjamas, and the results were captured on camera to create a Provident 2010 calendar with a difference. The £20,000 raised by staff was boosted by a further £10,000 donation from Provident's Good Neighbour programme, which supports employees' fundraising efforts by making a donation towards their chosen cause.

The fundraising was kickstarted by Provident employee Alison McKay, who organised the first ‘pyjama day' and Provident calendar. Spurred on by its success, staff at Provident's other 104 admin offices across the UK and Ireland joined the campaign, organising their own ‘pyjama days' and other fundraising activities.

Alison Mckay, one of Provident's Field Adminstration Support Managers, commented:

"I decided to organise fundraising for Cancer Research UK as cancer touches so many families in some way, and our staff couldn't have been more enthusiastic about getting involved. We really enjoyed every minute of our fundraising activities, and it's been a great team-building experience for us all."

Andrea Membe, Area Volunteer Manager (Bradford, Huddersfield & Halifax), Cancer Research UK:

"We're thrilled with Provident's donation, and every penny they raised will help us to continue our research into diagnosing, preventing and treating cancer. I'd like to thank everyone involved for the time and effort they put into their fundraising and congratulate them on raising such a fantastic amount of money."
