Leanne Burton of Hartlepool and Jackie Longstaff of Peterlee, have been awarded the Chairman’s fundraising award by Macmillan Cancer Support, Peterlee after raising almost £4,000 for the charity through a fundraising evening held in memory of their colleague.
Leanne and Jackie both work in the Peterlee branch of Provident Personal Credit and arranged a fundraising evening in memory of Norma Young, a Provident agent for 37 years who lost her battle with cancer in March 2007. The evening was held at Peterlee Labour Club in and guests enjoyed a pie and pea supper, raffles, a game of bingo and entertainment from local drag artist Diamond Lil and singer Sue Allen.
Macmillan Cancer Support has recognised Leanne and Jackie’s fundraising efforts on behalf of the charity by awarding them the Chairman’s fundraising award, which was presented at a ceremony that took place on February 29th, also at Peterlee Labour Club.
Leanne commented,
“Norma was a fantastic colleague and friend and we wanted to raise some money to thank Macmillan for the support and care they gave her. The award has come out of the blue, and we’re really pleased that our fundraising has been recognised.”
