Our home credit service provides small, short-term, unsecured cash loans - typically £50 to £500. Local agents deliver the money direct to their customers’ homes and call every week to collect repayments. There is an up-front, fixed charge with no default or penalty charges whatsoever – even if a customer misses a repayment or takes longer to repay their loan. The service is simple, convenient, flexible and transparent.
Our customers use home credit for special events like Christmas, weddings or birthdays, to pay for a holiday, a car repair or school uniforms, or simply to cope with an unexpectedly high bill.
At the heart of the home credit service is the agent. By developing good, businesslike relationships with their customers, agents are able to make sensible, informed lending decisions.
There are over 11,500 agents in the UK, most of whom (74%) are women. They often come from the same communities as their customers and have a real understanding of their customers' needs and circumstances. Agents are mainly paid commission on what they collect, not what they lend, so it is in their interest to lend only as much as customers can afford to repay.
Nearly all (94%) of our customers tell us they like and value our home credit service and eight out of ten customers tell us they would recommend us to a friend. Over half of new customers are introduced to Provident by existing borrowers.
Provident Personal Credit and Greenwood Personal Credit hold consumer credit licences and are members of the home credit industry’s trade body in the UK, the Consumer Credit Association (CCA). The CCA publishes a Code of Practice and a Business Conduct Pledge to which we subscribe. These voluntary codes reinforce the statutory obligations imposed by the Office of Fair Trading as part of our operating licence. We trade subject to the provisions of the Consumer Credit Act 1974. The activities of home credit companies are supervised at local level by local authority trading standards departments.
