Understanding our business
Established in 1880, Provident Financial is one of the UK's leading suppliers of personal credit products to the non-standard lending market. We serve over two million customers through a network of more than 400 branches, administrative offices, call centres and web sites.
How our business is structured
In 2007, we sold our motor insurance division and demerged our international business as a separately listed company. This realigning of our business means we now have a very straightforward and focused operational structure designed to maintain and improve our position in the UK non-standard market.
Our business is split into two divisions:

Consumer Credit Division
The Consumer Credit Division offers small, unsecured loans issued at the customer’s home by a local agent of the company and repaid weekly.

Credit card business
We offer Visa credit cards through Vanquis Bank, bringing the benefits of credit cards, in a controlled way, to people who can find themselves excluded by mainstream card issuers.
Our strategy
After realigning the way our business works, we are now fully focused on our UK operations and finding ways to best serve the ten million people who make up the UK non-standard credit market.
With over two million customers, we already have the country’s largest non-standard customer base. We have a strong portfolio of products designed to meet the particular needs of non-standard customers and over 125 years of experience working in the non-standard market.
We aim to grow our business from this strong position by building on our existing businesses and strengths and by taking advantage of changes in the market and competitive environment. We will also extend what we do to meet more of the needs of our existing target customer base.
